Swiss beverage manufacturer: Post-bid governance reveals where advertising was actually delivered

FouAnalytics made visible on which websites the advertising was actually embedded. Ancestor and frame-origin signals allowed observed delivery locations to be reconciled post-bid with the client's inclusion list. This exposed not only fraud patterns on legitimate publishers, but also technically valid impressions in environments that did not match the client's brand values.

01

Challenge

A Swiss beverage manufacturer ran a programmatic campaign using defined inclusion lists. Aggregated platform and supply reporting was not sufficient to independently confirm whether the creatives actually appeared only in approved environments. At the same time, measurement showed bot impressions both in the long tail and on legitimate publishers. The governance question was therefore broader than whether an impression was human or fraudulent: Where was the advertising actually rendered, and did that location comply with the approved supply and brand-value logic?

02

Approach

  1. evaluate all measured impressions within the technically instrumented scope; the campaign setup analyzed contained more than 2 million impression-level data points
  2. use FouAnalytics ancestor and frame-origin signals – including browser-side ancestorOrigins where available in the relevant environment – to reconstruct the effective embedding and delivery context of an ad
  3. reconcile observed domains and origins post-bid with the client's defined inclusion list and document discrepancies as a separate governance category
  4. assess fraud and human-traffic signals separately from brand-value and environment deviations so that a technically legitimate impression is not automatically treated as brand-compliant
  5. investigate anomalous legitimate publishers, long-tail domains and unknown operators using technical analysis and OSINT; where bot rates were unusually high, also examine possible tag misconfiguration, compromised delivery paths or other supply-side causes
03

Outcome

The audit demonstrated why media governance must extend beyond classic fraud detection. FouAnalytics provided post-bid evidence of the actual web context in which an impression was embedded. This made discrepancies between observed delivery and the inclusion list visible and identified environments that, despite technically valid or human impressions, did not match the defined brand values. At the same time, bot patterns on legitimate publishers became distinct investigation cases rather than being attributed generically to the long tail.
