Three terms, three levels

Bot Traffic describes a property of the traffic. IVT describes a classification according to defined rules. Ad Fraud describes an economic act or manipulation logic. Mixing these levels creates statements that look precise but are methodologically wrong.

Why aggregation is problematic

An overall rate can hide differences between publishers, placements, supply paths, devices or time windows. A robust analysis therefore asks where a signal originates and whether it can be explained consistently with other observations.

What advertisers should ask

Which impressions were actually measured? Which signals were observable? What is classified as IVT? What remains unclassified? Which supply or publisher layer is affected? And what action follows from the finding?

The limit of every measurement

No single tool sees the entire reality. Good forensics therefore documents coverage, limitations and uncertainty instead of turning one metric into an absolute truth.

Methodological note

This article describes principles and questions. Specific fraud, bot or quality rates cannot be transferred directly to individual campaigns without understanding methodology, scope and data basis.
